Community Groups at Delapre Abbey

There are a wide range of groups - formal and informal - that use the grounds and park at Delapre Abbey. If yours is not included here then please let us know.

In addition the Friends of Delapre Abbey have been pleased to work closely with a range of community and business organisations since 2001.

Northampton is one of the smaller branches, we currently have 91 members. The benefit of this is that most of our members and their parents know each other and enjoy the friendliness of the club. Every member is invited to all the rallies and our older members enjoy helping our younger members. We are well known in Northampton for our shows, jumping derbys and our summer dressage evenings held at Delapre Park.

Fishing

Delapre lake is one of the oldest gravel pits along the Nene Valley, surrounded in mature trees.  The lake itself contains large Carp and shoals of tench and bream which can be fished for through the year 24 hours a day. The ticket for 2014 runs from January 1st through until the 31st of December and is priced at only £40. Email delaprelake@gmail.com for info.

Olympus Care customers have been working 3 days a week at Delapre Abbey for 10 years and have been involved with the maintenance of the grounds. They make their own compost, clear pathways and keep the grounds in order. They have also grown produce in the allotment spaces and greenhouse which they sold to the general public.

The Northampton Society of Model Engineers Ltd. embraces all branches of model engineering including model traction engines, boats, stationary engines and clocks. On our Public running days at Delapre we have both elevated and ground level tracks running steam, petrol or battery powered model locomotives. Most of the model locomotives are based on modern &historic full size locomotives. Public Running Days in each year start on May Bank Holiday Monday and continue monthly on the first Sunday of the month until October.

Northampton Water Ski & Wakeboard Club was formed in 1974 as a family oriented recreational club. Members enjoy water skiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, hydrofoiling (air-chair) and inflatables, with all ages and levels of ability joining in the fun. From humble beginnings the club has continually developed and in 1992 our new fully equipped clubhouse opened, totally funded by the membership.
